I literally opened up the door and two naked people were standing there in the bathroom and they were, you like, Sorry, I'm just showing your house. What's up, everyone, welcome to another episode of On Display with Melissa Gorga, I hope everyone had an amazing Father's Day. Joe and I actually had a great Father's Day this year. We, we were down the shore and we went to my sister's house and it was good. So with that, I want to get into my guest today that I'm actually super, super, super excited about. You guys have seen her on shows like Dancing With the Stars and Kendra on top. She's the hilarious girl next door, and you could see her on the second season of her latest show, Cancer Cells. Hollywood Ladies and gentlemen, Miss Kendra Wilkinson. Hi everybody. Thank you for having me. Of course. Thank you for being here. I feel like I've been. What have you and I ever met in person before? Probably. I mean, I think, you know, it's a small world. What we do is I'm sure we have right. I feel like maybe moons ago, years ago at like an OK mag party or something like an OK, remember, they used to do those parties that they would almost hate. Yeah, they would be fun. Those were the fun days, right? I agree. I'm like, They don't. Nobody does any of these like parties like this anymore, right? Like, we used to all get together, and I think we were all a lot younger too. So we thought it was so cool to like, get there and do the red carpet. Like, now I'm like, We don't do anything anymore. I'm like, Man, I, it feels less like. Like, so we're like, we're not celebrating something anymore. We're like, We're OK, what's going on? You know, you have to kind of throw a house party now and, you know, we're not invited to any cool events. And I know I'm like, I realize that too. And I feel bad even for my show, for like the new Housewives, they're like, Where's all the fun events? And like, when do I get to see how it is to be famous? I'm like, There's really none of that anymore. Yeah, thanks to social media, you know, social media completely killed off all the fun. It really did. It really did. You're so funny. I love your giggle. I remember your giggle for years and years. Obviously, you evolved so much from the girls next door, but I personally fell in love with you on that show. I just thought you were the sweetest, nicest. I loved your mother. I love your grandmother. I just really did. I fell in love with you. I thought you were great. And you know who else loves you so much? My mother, my mother, Donna Donna Marco loves Kendra. She Alabama. I hope to meet her guys. She has always loved you so much. She just used to laugh at you all the time, and we just thought it was. It was a lot of fun. You know, it was a wild time back in my eighteen nineteen 2021 you know about who didn't have fun at that time. I mean, those were the days of self wildness, of course. And at my end, it's difficult to I mean, being, could you imagine like I got on TV at 31, but being on TV at 19, 2020? Oh my God, I have to give you credit for that because there is no one who wants their life recorded at that age. Like, you're not. That's when you're supposed to do everything under the radar. And that's funny that you say that, Melissa, because it was I did not enter or I did not sign up to go the mansion when there were cameras. Even odd. So like the show was not even a factor or even something even going on. And but at the time, I chose to live there, so it was under the radar to some degree. So when the show, just all of a sudden came into the mansion with the camera on and surprised me in my bed with like, Wow, I was like, What the f**k? That's that's kind of how it started. So it was under the radar until it was. But it's what it sounds like. So you never actually like signed up to be on a reality show. They just started filming it. And then they were like, Oh, so now you're you're going to be on this reality show. Eventually, we, you know, I could have left the mansion. I could have said no, but I'm like. OK, I guess we're going to film a show. Yeah, I mean, listen, not for nothing, but why wouldn't you? You're a 19 year old girl living in the Playboy man who's going to say no to that. I think everyone under the Sun would have been like, All right, let's see what happens. I didn't grow up, you know, with money in my hand and all that stuff. So it's not like I was Paris Hilton born from the Hiltons, you know? Right? I money was money and fun was fun. And. Show was a show. So I don't think I know anybody that would return any of that. I mean, I agree, but we have to say whatever you did, you still made America love you. Everyone does truly love you and you had something so relatable about you. And I think that's why you've gotten so many shows after that. I mean, you've done a lot of things since then. And listen, I know what it's like to be caught up in that whole. Obviously, I'm on Housewives right now, so I know what it's like to have that feeling of like you. You get stuck in this bubble where everyone just wants to say, like, Well, she's a housewife. She must be drama mom. She must be crazy, must be. This must be that. And you kind of get caught up and painted in a certain light and then you become an adult and get a little older. And I've been on reality TV now for 13 years and I know well, right, have been just as long. So it's like you start to age and get older and turn into a business woman and learn to do different things and have children. And and it's like, you want people to stop seeing the first thing they saw and realized that in the last decade. Right, Melissa and I know a lot of I'm friends with a lot of celebrities that go through this, you know, and a lot of child stars. Obviously, you see them going through stuff. They they they were characterized as this one person forever, and it's not fair. So I try to like, you know, it's it's not real, you know, because we grow, we evolve as humans. So like, of course, people are going to know us from where they first fell in love with us. And that's fair. But what's also fair is to evolve with us through time and to understand that what happened at 18 is not what's happening at thirty eight. And exactly, you know, and it's funny because a lot of people just don't get it. They think they see a photo on Instagram of like back when I was at a party, when I was 19 and they're like, Oh man, you're crazy. And I'm like, I'm like at home doing laundry now. I hear, like, I got the laundry go until it's all about the thorn in the back of what would show was on before. Were your kids? Like, I'm like trying to sell a house right now. Like, I don't know where you're my, where your time frame is in your head. But things have changed. Well, that's I think that's the thing about this reality TV thing. It's like once they see you in one light, it's very hard to change their opinion and to, you know, even for other housewives who want to break free and do acting. Or they saw that it's like, No, you're a housewife and you're drama and this is what you are. And it's been I've I've gotten very lucky to be able to kind of break the mold on that a little bit because I branched out so many businesses and having NBC and great, but not. It's not just like people we it's not just the fanbase, which which they have every right to go through whatever they're going to do in the journey and what they see it. But like, it's also the the life experience, the natural life experience we live. So like, for instance, I am a single mom, you know, and I don't date because here's why there's a lot of problems when it comes to, you know, finding a man or whatever because men think Playboy. They think I'm a certain type. They think I have these massive boobs, so I have to, like, be a certain thing. And so I'm a fun person. I'm a free spirit, but I'm not going to be caught up in someone's idea of what I am when I'm not even close to that. I'm just like a basic tomboy real estate agent, mom, you know? And so when like, I turned down like a really gorgeous hot man asked me to go out Sunday and I'm like, No, really rich guy. And I was like, No, because I don't think that you are really in it for me. I think you have this idea. And I don't like that feeling already, and I don't think that's fun for me to live in that idea. So I just I'm pushing dating aside for four until I feel better about it all. You know, so it's really important to us to really focus on my kids, focus on my business focus and not allow the noise to distract me and men. Because, you know, and I think I think men, it's really just going to be a difficult process for me to find love again. I totally get that. I totally get it, and I see that it could be rough, right? I mean, it's listen, if you if you're you're probably good at fishing this out by now. You for who's into the old show and who's has this like vision of what you are now opposed to what you were 12 years ago. You know, I'm sure you're getting better at fishing out who's legit looking for a normal date that they just want to go and meet somebody and who is looking for Kendra from the Playboy Mansion? For sure. 100 percent, right? And some people are still out for clout. Some people are out. You know, it's crazy. So I'd stay more alone. And that's why a lot of celebrities do it. I used to be alone a lot because it's really just difficult to navigate, sometimes even friendships. You know, man, it's just hard. You know, it's hard. There's a hard part about doing what we do. There's a good part and there's hard part. So, you know, but the most important thing are the kids. So. And all they see me as is, is mom. So it's that's the most important identity I have today, and all I do is for them and make sure that they're taking care of the rest. It's just like, you know, well, I respect that and I love that. And that's that's everything you should be doing, right? I mean, obviously, they come first. Good money habits start with your very first paycheck. So we, you know, we we were we had a great marriage and we, you know, we were really good. There were a couple of bumps in the road, but the public made it a little bit worse. It was. We had a great marriage, but now we are great co-parents. You know, of course, nobody really signs up for a marriage to get divorced, so. And that wasn't really the part of my depression I went through for like four to five years. Divorce was just triggered my depression. So I went through a divorce, lost everything I knew, which was my TV show. I had a TV show every year until my divorce and then my divorce happened. And all of a sudden now I'm left with no marriage. I left, I'm left with no show. I had to move into a little house. I didn't understand what was going on right and my and all of a sudden I had to do some intense healing. For years, I didn't have fame. I didn't have everything I knew for a really long time. I don't know who I was. I was like, so lost and I had to do some serious healing like to the point where I do like, oof, then that's how I chose real estate was because I had to figure it out and put faith in something again, put faith in life, and I chose real estate, not even knowing a camera would even turn on again. And I took. And so when it did, it was just, wow. Like, it's like God was like, you know, giving my life back to me. It was crazy. And I'm just so grateful to have this opportunity. You know, I want to talk all about the real estate Kendra as well, because I find it so intriguing that you went over to real estate and the show, and I want to get into all of that with you in a couple of minutes. But did you find that that time when you were not on this show and you, you know, everything was going on, you were moving and it was, you know, you were your marriage was falling apart at that point. Was it better at that point that you didn't have the cameras in front of you to kind of be able to cry it out and sort through your feelings and not actually have to put that section of your life on TV? Well, it's funny because I it was such a hard place to be in. I it's like, I like doing the creative side of of the show, and I do a lot of it. So like the end of Kendra sells Hollywood with the lady like was with a lot of my, you know, I do a lot of the producing myself because it is. It's like writing a memoir for me. I don't know how the Housewives work, but it's like trusting a ghostwriter to write your memoir for for my show. And I wish I could produce the housewives. I want to produce them. So I love that they allow you to kind of be in it. It's a show. It's, you know, it's a show about my journey, really. So I, you know, it's about trusting the producer and working with them. But it's but but you know, I do have to go through the real process of a real journey at the same time. So I don't allow, you know, I'm not going to be God and be like, I need everything to be about me. It's I'm going to go through the true experience of what it's like to be a starting real estate agent. And so I'm not going to be handed anything. I told everybody, Don't even don't hand me anything. Don't make me look like I'm winning all the time. Please let. Let's really go through this for real because it's really important to go through it and not just for myself, but for the people who I inspire. So it's not, you know, you can't just be, you know, all of a sudden in a Gucci dress. I'm a single freaking mom paying my rent. I'm not going to be in some Gucci dress right now, like acting like I'm selling frickin $17 million property is overnight. Like, I'm not going to be doing that. I'm going through a real journey. I'm actually going to a 70 million dollar listing tonight. Wow. Oh my god, I hope you get it. It's not my listing yet. I'm going for it. All right. Well, I'm going to cross my fingers for you. So it really sounds like you found happiness and you've heals a lot through your journey. And now your journey has landed in that luxury real estate industry, right? So tell me about cancer cells, Hollywood, and you know, let me know what's going on over here. I'm dying to hear about it all. So Kendra sells Hollywood. It really started. After I passed my real estate test. So it was such a crazy whirlwind of of of a time. I went from. Like, we just went through like the story of it. I went through a divorce, lost everything all at once my two dogs, I lost everything. I found myself alone, literally alone for four to five years and had nothing. I had to really. Figure it out, because I literally lost everything, and, you know, when when fame goes away, like a lot goes away. I know I've talked to Housewives that have just been, you know, that were no longer on the show. They were let go by Bravo and they tell me that they got they had a mute every housewife on Instagram. They couldn't look at it anymore. They didn't want to see anything that had to do with TV or Bravo or yeah. And it's a very I know Tamra Judge told me, for instance, she struggled more than she thought she would, and she couldn't believe how bad it was affecting her. And she spent so many years on reality television that when it got taken away from her, she really, really went through a really hard time. So it is a normal thing to feel. It changes your whole life. It changes friendships it it completely changes everything you once knew. And so I've been we've been doing it for so long that like all of a sudden, friendships started everything. Everything just started changing, changing all at once. And so I lost every minute felt like a gut wrenching pain that I was experiencing for four to five years. And I didn't know what to do. I was like, what is happening to my life? Like, What is how do I get the how do I? How do I break out of this and find a new life, I guess. All while being a mother, don't forget you still have kids. I wasn't really. It was impossible to be happy at that point. I didn't even know how to be happy. All my kids were. What were my kids? Gave me the purpose to try to stay alive, to keep going, to drive them to hockey and basketball and smile and watch them do everything school. They they're the ones who kept my heart beating, right? Right. But like when it came to, I was just like a zombie, not knowing what I was going to do for a living. I have nobody paying my bills. Never, never have. I never have, you know, like back when I was 19. But like L.A., it's like it was so hard. So four years, five years afterwards, I'm like, OK, I did a lot of healing. I did a lot of I did a lot of healing from Playboy. I'm like, OK, who am I? Who is this chick? I don't even know who this person is. Visit apartments dot com the place to find a place. So I did all the healing and therapy and stuff, so then I I chose real estate. You know, there were so many things I was going to do, but I thought real estate because not because any show or anything like that I was I didn't even not watch TV at the time. I just one day rolled into like a real estate office and I was like, Hey, can you guys, are you guys looking to hire someone like me? And they and the receptionist like Kendra on a huge bed? And I'm like, Thanks. She goes, Do you have a real estate license? I go, What's that? Oh my God, you even know what that was. And she's like, Oh, you're going to have to take a test. And I go, I went into a bigger depression and oh my god. Was it hard? Was the test really hard? I was so scared. I was. I was like, I've never taken a test in my life. I didn't even know what what I was like. That was so scary. So I just I just did it because it was cold, but I was like, OK, come on, you can do this. So I literally read three huge books, and I had the time because it was COVID there. It was like weird, this blessing in disguise and during COVID, right? So I really had the time to sit there and read everything. And then I just passed the test on the first try, which was really difficult, and I just screamed the whole. The whole place heard me scream. The security guard came out like, You need to be quiet. All these people are in there still taking the test, but like, Oh, it's the real estate, OK? And so next thing you know, I posted it on Instagram and it went viral. I went from like San Diego. From taking the test. I drove up to Orange County, Newport. And within. Within 30 minutes, I had people in this whole restaurant going, you passed the test, I'm like, Oh my God, I guess everyone knows. No. Oh my God. See, that's awesome. That's you change. That's like you pulling up your hair, put on your big girl panties, right? Saying, like, I'm going to make a change, I'm going to take this test. I'm going to start moving in a positive. Like, that's awesome that you did. I've never known like, look, TV does one thing all these accomplishments in the fame world. But when I pass that I've never passed a real test before. It was so big to my life, more. It was something I've never really experienced. I actually did something for myself. I did something to learn something new and it was so awesome. It was a high I've never known before. And so one thing led to another. And next thing you know, I'm back on TV and the process started. I was, you know, I was. Me and a producer, we started talking and we're like, what are we going to do? I'm like, What else are we going to do? I'm not going to sit here and fake this. Like, How can you fake this? Like, I'm a new agent. Like, I'm not going to pretend I'm some celebrity from the Playboy Mansion selling a frickin, you know, wearing like, I got to stay real, dude, because this is the only way I'm going to answer questions. And like, really your first one of your first episodes, you do talk about how it's like your first listing rather. And you say at the appointment how you're very scared and you're very nervous and you're being very open and honest about your fear of like jumping into the world of real estate and you're being like raw with it all. And if you're a girl, we only see, as you know, we only see a snippet of what really is going on. So like, what's going on besides the show outside of the show, the s**t that people, the s**t people say to me, Oh, I mean, it's every day. It's brutal. I experienced something horrible almost every day in this world, people say the worst things. I mean, it's not not even with the camera on, it's not in the, you know, so what you're what you're experiencing is is a real journey that I have to experience to get to where I want to go. It's a phase of of of the process and you have to remind yourself of it, like this is just a part of this is just your three, you know, because I started your. I started my year one on a camera, and now we're at three. So it's a process and I'm I am starting from scratch when it comes to learning something new and you're just on the journey with me and I'm and I, I'm happy to share it. I'm happy to share it with the world. But there is a fourth wall that that that that me and you both know there's a fourth wall that the audience is not seeing. It's not the show that there's no it's about. It's about what's what people are saying beyond what people, how people are making you feel, the experience of like being like, you know, someone trying to poach my work or something like that. Judge, just judge whatever you're doing. Judge, I'm I'm being judged every minute. I walk out that door, you know, so it's really. And people aren't seeing a people aren't seeing half of what I'm experiencing, but I it's my job to share. It's my creative, my creative way of I want to be able to share the true experience, you know, not hide it. Listen, I think it's so important to show celebrities being real and being nervous and showing real feelings opposed to sugarcoating everything walking in there, like, you know exactly what you're doing. You're being wrong, you're being honest, you're like, Look, I've lost everything, including my marriage, my whatever. You know, my home. I am literally a woman, a mother or starting from the ground up, starting fresh. I have, you know, a background of this that everybody knows me for, but I'm really so much more. So let me like step in here right now and learn the process and trying to show people. And there's so many moms that I'm sure you're inspiring out there that, you know, are going through very similar situations where their lives are starting over or could be divorces or they lost a job or whatever it may be that you're showing them like, Look me too, or it's not easy and it's scary, and I'm nervous. I, you know, and I think that's so it's so open and awesome. You like relatable? Yeah, it's it. And it's uncomfortable. It's on. I understand there's a lot of it's there's so many different reactions to my show. Like, a lot of people are uncomfortable. They're saying, What the hell she's it. It's not. Our isn't meant to be understood all the time. You know, that's what we do is a form of art, and it's not meant to be, you know, always a perfectly paved for the audience. It's meant for you to feel something and to experience something with us. And so that's our that's what we do, and it's harder than it looks. And and it's really important to for me to share the journey and stay positive. And I believe in myself and I believe that we all go through these phases and we were even after this season of the show. I kind of let these last few days I've been I've been feeling like I'm entering a whole new phase. So I feel like I'm not crying as much. I feel like I'm stronger than I was yesterday. I feel like I'm today. For some reason, I was led to go and meet with someone who is potentially going to. He could. They could use me to sell it an $80 million house, you know, and wow, like that it takes for you to believe in yourself, evolving a lot of self-awareness and never allowing what others think of you to to push you back down into a hole. You got to use it as power. And so like, you know, we all go through these phases and it's and that's just my choice to share the authentic journey of it, you know? Right? And listen, a lot of women can relate to the pressure they put on themselves to make others happy and show that they're good at something and show what they can do. But it's it's a lot of pressure and the fact that you're showing that is awesome. On display with Melissa Gorga is brought to you by progressive insurance. But let me ask you about some of the funny things that go on now that you're a real estate agent. I mean, I know I had Mauricio on my show. I asked him this question. I asked, like, So what's the craziest thing? Like if you were looking for a house right from one of your clients? Is there something they demanded had to be in the house that they were looking for and vice versa? Was there any house you were selling that had something so crazy in it that it was like weird, that they had that in their home? I was just on a I was just on a couple month journey with some clients right now and we finally closed on on a house and we were in and out of so many different homes. You know, smart by their very they know what they want. They know what they don't want, you know, harder, is it harder to land the client or to land the sale? What do you feel like is harder? Oh, it's harder to land a client, for sure. It's harder to land a client because clients, you know, most people already know like five agents. So you have to you kind of have to figure out the formula, how to how to get someone to use you, how to how to how to get them, to trust you, how to get them, to want to go on a journey with you to to, you know, and trust you to find their house, you know? Right. So sometimes, like, I'll start the process and they'll freak out and they'll be like, I'll never hear from them again. You know, you're like, What did I do? What I? Yeah. So it's going to be it's it's it's harder to land a client for sure. If I how many people are in my life, I'd be a billionaire right now, right? I was just going to say like, people have to just trust you from knowing that you're a good human from. That must help a little bit. Or do you think it works against you? The fact that people know you from TV, it's working. It started off working against me most again. Most people think men were taken advantage of me in the first year. They were like, Oh, and I allowed it because not, not not, but they were like, Oh, come out and meet with me, you know, for dinner and we'll talk about, we'll talk business. So then I would go out and I. And next thing you know, they're calling it a date. Hey, can we see each other again? I'm like, I thought this was business, right? I might be right. Let's talk about what house you're looking for. And it was it's so brutal because that's another side of the business that women have to experience. And there's not a lot and this this is a side that needs to be. We need protection and this business man, because, you know, there's a lot of weird stuff that happens. I believe that and you're going to empty houses meeting random people that you don't know that they that's it can be scary. I think about that to real estate. They they can. Man, I've been law. I people have tried to lure me and and next thing, you know, I'm the last straw I had was I went on this listing appointment. And next thing, you know, we're walking through this like creepy vineyard and I'm like, You know what? This is getting weird. It's getting really creepy. And I think so I'm going to, you know, I'm going to. That's a whole nother part of the business. Yeah, I got it, I got it, there's there's listen, there's goods and bads to everything. And the fact that you get to show all of that on TV or as much as you can on this new show, I think is awesome because why not? We've watched you for so long and to see this part of your journey too. I feel like it's like I thought of something funny and I don't. I thought of something funny that happened, but I don't know if I'm allowed to say it, but I'll say it anyways. OK, go ahead. Just go for it. That's what we do over here. So we were kind of showing, OK, so I'm not going to name names or tell you where we were or whatever, because it's kind of risky to even tell the story, but. Right. So we're showing the house and it was a really big house, right, man. Huge mansion. And. I was showing the House, and next thing, you know, they're the owners we didn't realize were back at the time, they stuck in through the back and they I was showing the property and I open up the the the door to the bathroom and they were naked. No, no. Were they having sex? Yeah, they're great. What were they doing? This is beating Mauricio story. I could tell you that his was about sex, too, though it was about like sex chambers in the house and stuff. Oh, here's that house. Oh, it's in L.A. somewhere. But wait, were these two having sex? What were they doing naked? Don't you know what? Someone did reach out to make sort of a listing right now? And someone did reach out and were like, Hey, can we use your listing as a as a sex club? I'm like, Why would they look for people to rent it to them for these things? Yeah, yeah, yeah. But but this was probably the funniest one. Well, it is crazy. I don't know if I was even allowed to say it, but I opened up the bathroom door to show the property and they're in there. They were supposed to be there and they were there, and I thought it was a joke. I literally opened up the door and two naked people were standing there in the bathroom and they were like, Sorry, I'm just showing your house girl. I ran so fast I abandon my client. Did they know that their house was being shown like they had to? No, I think they thought we were done or something, or they thought we were like in the kitchen nurse. Wow. I mean, speaking of L.A. being crazy, what? Like on the market right now? What is the hottest L.A. neighborhood to live in? Is there like a like where where do people want to buy right now in L.A.? Oh my god. Well, we're following the Jay-Z and Beyonce say big purchase, aren't we? Right, so. I mean, that was 200 million. Right. So right now and what part of L.A. is that? Where is that? That's Malibu. So Malibu. Yeah. So this Malibu and Kim just bought one for like a hundred. Like, there's so much action going on in Malibu right now. Really, everybody wants to be on the ocean. Yeah. And then there's Hidden Hills. And so I just my first house, like I've been really wanting to sell in Calabasas lately, and I've been really working hard to do so, and I just sold my first house in Calabasas. I can get excited about that thing. And also, that's of course, you know, the really the area like Beverly Hills and stuff like that. People are wanting to be in the suburbs in L.A. more now, I think in the in the gated communities so that I'm the agent in this in Calabasas. So do you hear this, my L.A. listeners, Kendra is your agent. You guys better all look her up if you are in Calabasas because she is going to sell your home for you. So I want Kendra. This has been so much fun. You've always been hilarious, and I'm so happy that we were able to catch up today. I've always been a fan and I am rooting for you. Just listening to everything you said. Lindsie recaps her Kelsea Ballerini concert and also gives us some details on what play therapy was for Jackson when he was participating. Kristen is NOT surprised about Jessica Simpson's divorce at all, but we are all most DEFINITELY surprised at all the recent news on the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni scandal. Lindsie isn't convinced on an article stating that happy couples post less about their relationships especially after her most recent experience. An article about a Principal throwing a party that involved teens and underaged drinking has us scratching our heads..
