Debbie Graham MSW, Support Women in Recovery & Their Children

Debbie Graham MSW is the Executive Director of Pacific Treatment Alternatives-Snohomish County PCAP, in Everett. In her work Debbie sees the effects of domestic abuse, addiction, homelessness, on women, and often women with children. And with the PCAP program, Debbie tells us how it helps link mothers to community resources that will help them build and maintain healthy, independent family lives. It assure that the children are in safe, stable home environments and receiving appropriate health care. There are 18 such centers in the Puget Sound area. Women can receive this support for 3 years, a good amount of time to begin to build a foundation. A benefit concert featuring Loretta Lynn's granddaughter, Tayla Lynn, is being held at The Historic Everett Theater on Saturday July 19th, 7pm. Leslie Landis is a licensed marriage and family therapist. Leslie has also been a legislative assistant to a U.S. senator, a teacher, financial planner, a bank trust officer, and an associate director in TV. And now Leslie is a new author. Her new book is: Chendell--A Natural Warrior. The focus is the environment, the health of the planet. The Superhero genre is sure to captivate and resonate with young people, but with all ages. And her work in leadership is such an important complement to all that Dr. Zeitz is outlining for our current and future work. Cristal is dedicated to helping girls really fulfill their potential, because they have it in their young years until many when they reach school age, give away their genius. Raven Magwood an international speaker and achievement expert who graduated with honors from Clemson University at just 19! Recognized as one of the top 10 Clemson graduates in the past decade, Raven received the Roaring Ten Award. She was a national gymnastic champion at age 11 and was encouraged to write a book about her experiences. Raven now has her 4th book, and discusses with us the '7 Practices of Prosperous Women'. One of the practices is to write down our goals, along with smaller goals to reach the bigger one. She shares that one goal was to give back to the community. Along came the opportunity to coach young gymnasts at a local gym, and then in time the owner wanted to sell the gym, and Raven and her mother are now the co-owners. This underscores another practice, which is to have balance in our life, to make time to be with family. Raven also has a non-profit foundation that seeks to provide mentorship opportunities to youth who would not otherwise have that chance.

Rene Czerwinski is a licensed mental health counselor with Pacific Medical Centers. The statistics are staggering--roughly 45 million people in the U.S. suffer from mental illness and at least 10 million of these people suffer from serious mental illness. And, I feel we see evidence of this on our city streets every single day. PacMed is launching a campaign that highlights the importance of identifying and treating mental health issues. Their staff works collaboratively with referrals to appropriate specialists, involving parents and also teachers when working with youth, and working towards identifying mental health issues, including suicidal thoughts as suicide has reached epidemic heights in the US and in much of the world.

Her book--Countdown America, is a thriller that contains cyber espionage, Russian scandals, has strong women in powerful positions....and it's really quite interesting as this conversation follows Hu Dalconzo speaking about the role of women, and feminine energy in our world today. Professionally Marcie Fox is an accountant--being practical she knew she needed a career to support her on the journey. But writing has always been a passion, so she has progressed well on her path. This is a great, page-turning read--an exciting summer read!

Sarah Slack is the founder of The TEARS Foundation. This beautiful nonprofit organization came about because 18 years ago Sarah lost her baby boy--he was stillborn. Sarah is honest about her painful grief journey and she has made it have a beautiful meaning and is doing so much to help other families in similar difficult circumstances. The TEARS Foundation continues to grow and evolve and is now in various communities in the US and is also international. It provides both emotional and financial support around burial and memorial needs.

Dr. Darcy Broughton is an obstetrician and gynecologist, specializing in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Pacific NW Fertility, in Seattle. April 12th-27th is National Infertility Awareness Week. 1 in 8 couples has a challenge with becoming pregnant, over 7 million women in the US have received infertility care. This is a medical diagnosis, so it's critically important to inform and spread the word.

Rosemary Lombardy has 35 years experience as a financial advisor. Using this professional experience, along with her personal experience of surviving domestic abuse, and drawing on the stories of other women in similar circumstance, Rosemary has written an important and empowering book, Breaking Bonds: How to Divorce an Abuser and Heal--A Survival Guide. Rosemary provides lists and details about subjects such as getting a restraining order, 21 Essential items to pack in a to-go bag. And at the end of her book she also addresses 'forgiveness' of oneself, as well as the abuse--in order to move forward strongly.

Captain Lisa Barnes is a pastor with the Salvation Army at White Center and is deeply committed to social justice work, to bringing love to those most in need (which maybe is all of us). Lisa brought a girls' empowerment program "Brave" to Seattle, a program to help girls in foster care, ages 12-18. The statistics are staggering. Around 70% of these vulnerable young women can find themselves in the sex trafficking trade, homeless, or losing their life. One day, Saturday, May 18 gives them an opportunity to see themselves differently, see their value, their beauty. It is free for these young women. Volunteers and donations are needed!
