We're a couple days late, but I gotta tell you, you know, we've started this new podcast at Quick Shift Pod, uh which is a little bit more, well, not a little bit. It's a lot more. It's all hockey based. Um So we're tweaking, we're tweaking. I don't know if we're gonna segue. I mean, today I'm not really planning on talking hockey at all. Um, but, uh we do talk hockey at depth over at Quick shift pod. Uh A good life has never lived without a bit of risk and this battle is well worth everyone. A good life is never lived without a bit of risk and this battle is well worth everyone. Episode 56. No ruffs given. Um there's a lot going on, uh, a lot going on everywhere. Uh we have a big UFC fight this weekend. Um There's a political war waging in our country right now. Former President, Donald Trump was indicted and, and arrested in New York City this week. Um Eric Adams the mayor of New York, everybody's, everybody's giving their two cents worth, you know, everybody's, everybody's dipping their toe in the water on this. Um I think the most important thing is that, you know, we have to be realistic about everything. So, like I, I'll, I'll start with this. Ok. Um So whatever you have to say about uh uh uh President Trump, uh it seems like this is a far fetched, this is a far fetched ploy uh on somebody's part, but that's not so much what I'm concerned about. I'm concerned about when you peel back the layers and it, it's as simple as this. I, I saw a stat, ok, New York City for 2022 uh 433 murders, 1615 rapes, 17,000 robberies, 26,000, uh felony assaults, 15,000 burg burglaries, 51,000 grand larcenies and uh 13,000 car thefts. Now, I'm not sure if you've seen the news, but, uh, this past week, uh uh a gentleman, hard working man who worked through the whole entire pandemic, works in a parking garage in New York City. And uh another gentleman came in and tried to steal a car. Now, the man that works at the parking garage, he said, you know what, I'm sick of this, I'm not gonna just let this guy steal the car and I guess they got into a little bit of a wrestling match and, and the, uh, parking attendant got shot twice but he ended up getting the guy's gun and he shoots the robber once. Well, they both got arrested and the man that works in the parking garage, he wakes up, he's got two bullet wounds and he's handcuffed to his hospital bed. Now, Alvin Bragg, who I, I believe is the, uh, I don't even know what his term is, is the attorney general or, or, or something of, of New York State, the district attorney, he's the one that approved the charges on the uh parking attendant, right? So just like the guy in the deli, the gentleman in the deli up in the Bronx. I don't know, when was it last summer who protected himself and ended up uh killing uh uh another guy that was trying to kill him, rob him. We're seeing massive, massive injustices. I mean, that, that is just factual, you know, uh the F D N Y N Y P D hockey game is this weekend, it's a big game, you know, and I, you know, like I, I, I remember the old New York, you know, I, I remember the New York going to play in New York after 9 11 with the Red Wings and like that city, it was a city that was, that was beaming with pride. People were proud to be New Yorkers. You know, you, you, you had a mayor Giuliani that, that say what you will about uh Big Rudy. But after 9 11, you know, he really stepped up, he really stepped up. He was a calming presence in New York City. The respect that I had for N Y P D just back then as somebody who didn't live in the city, you saw something that was, you know, men going into those, into those towers, dads, uncles, brothers, husbands, uh women that went into those towers. Ok. They were both firefighters and cops and there was always, you know, you would hear about the, the, the tension between the two or the, the the fool hearted uh teasing, you know, but there was a AAA massive respect. Now, I was in New York City for a long time. I saw New York City change. I saw what happened when the um pandemic, whatever you would like to call it at this point. I mean, a actually at this point, what would you call it? Would you still refer to it as a pandemic? And then the BLM riots and something happened to the N Y P D. Ok. Something happened to those guys, those guys that I identified with, you know, those guys that their dads were cops. Long Island guys, Staten Island, guys, guys, guys from Jersey that came into the city, you know, the Bronx Queens, what we forget is that it's a five borough city, right? So you've got a guy, Mayor Adams, er Eric Adams who used to be a cop, you know, he needs his moment with the whole Trump indictment. So he's got to go on TV. And, and in his, in his, I don't even understand what he's saying half the time, but he starts, he starts popping off about Marjorie Taylor Green because she can't. She said she's coming in to support former president Trump in. What world does a, does a mayor feel like he can go on and, and start taking pot shots at a member of Congress? Like what happened to, to America? I just rewatched, Steven Spielberg's Lincoln. I, I'll tell you, I, I've heard rumblings over the last couple of years, but it's interesting that Republicans ended slavery, not the Democrats. And again, I'll say this, I I'm probably not gonna vote in the next election because It just feels too crooked at this point. It feels way too crooked. I saw this incredible tweet, what a what a remarkable tweet. This was OK. Talking about the highest paid actor last year. Tom cruise was 2,022's highest paid actor. He made 100 million. Somebody writes in the comments. Actually, Zelinsky was the highest paid actor. He got 18 billion. I mean that is uh wow, that is a zinger. There's still a lot of talented people on online, but I was listening to Pete Pete Davidson getting interviewed by John Bernthal uh on the Real Ones podcast and, and Pete Davidson said something that I really like Pete Davidson. Now, he said, you know, street love, like the love from the street. That's way more important to me than love from online. And it's actually, it's, it's so real. It's such a fact. Ok. And I know being a former New Yorker and, and, and somebody that played for the Rangers, like street love is real, that's the thing you fantasize about in the movies. You know, you see it, the old New York taxi drivers yelling at each other and, and uh you know, seeing Paul o'neill on a corner and people, people, you know, respecting him but, but, but loving him, street love, not this bulls**t that we're living in amongst the tiktok and the Instagram and the, and the uh you know, I, I, I I it's all just, it's vapor, it's f**king vapor. So when I think about New York and I think about the uh cops and the firefighters, you know, I'm cheering for the firefighters this weekend. I have, I, I, I'm partial because I think the, the, the boys in blue, you know, that, that showed up to that parking garage and actually put the individual, the man that works at the parking garage in handcuffs and, and, and probably cuffed him in the ambulance, like shame on you. You know, the only reason they didn't put President Trump, former President Trump, in my opinion, in handcuffs was I bet you the secret service vetoed it and said no we're, we're, that, that you can't do that. Like we're the secret service. We, we are the federal government and I, it's like a dichotomy. You're not putting him in handcuffs because that's just not allowed. But there would have been some cop in New York right now that would have handcuffed President Trump and, and they would have done the perp walk and I understand guys have to, you know, everyone's got a family to feed, right? But what's right? And what's wrong, what is right and what's wrong? A train f**king derails in Ohio. That's old news. All those people that are probably gonna get sick from the water and they'll make a movie about it in 20 years. It'll be sort of like Aaron Brockovich. You know, these aren't isolated situations. So I, I, I don't know, it just felt like, and I'm riffing here, I'm riffing, but you know, Alvin Bragg shut down New York City brought in 38,000 N Y P D officers. He's gonna spend an estimated 200 million of New York City funds For what President Trump says was a totally legit $130,000 NDA. And it's also crazy that on the day he gets indicted, the 9th Circuit Court awarded him 122,000 in damages from Stormy Daniels. That's, that is what the f**k is going on here. What is happening here? You know, there's a big weekend. Uh this weekend in the U F C. Uh Israel Adesanya is fighting Miguel or Michel Pereira, a big bad f**king killer from Brazil. All right. It's a huge fight. It's a huge fight, you know, uh Tank Garcia, uh sorry, Garcia in Tank. This is a big boxing fight. All right. Two undefeated kids that are, that are gonna fight. And I watched the showtime preview, uh that they do a great job on and, you know, Tank Davis said something. He said, you know, Garcia didn't grow up wealthy, hard working parents who, who, who, who, you know, I think they were, uh, Mexican immigrants did everything they could to make sure that, that Garcia had boxing gloves on his hands and, and, you know, the kid became a star and a big, uh, influencer online. He's a superstar now. Yeah, but Tank said something that I just thought was interesting. I just want to air this. He said, you know, I came from a, uh, a home. Both my parents were drug addicts. You know, I've been in the darkness and it's a little bit darker than where, where Garcia's darkness has come from. You know, I know they didn't grow up wealthy. His parents had to, uh, were immigrants, had to grind. But bro, I've been in the, I've been in the depths of hell and I, and I just thought about that, just think about that from a, from a, from a, a physical and, you know, sports is half of it is mental, half of these, the, the fight game you get, you gotta promote the fight, but you also have to win the fight and you can do a little bit of promotion and mental warfare in the same breath. So does, what Tank says? Does that have weight? Is that the truth? Like, bro, I came from the gutter man. My parents were drug addicts and obviously I'm on this, you know, our youth and, and our parents and um, you know, a lot of the podcasts I listen to are guys like Bernthal or Rob o'neill and the Operator podcast who, who are trying to, they're trying to toe the line of like we grew up and, and you know, we, we, I've said it before we drank from garden hoses. We were outside, we were building ramps with skateboard ramps with cinder blocks and, and we were just doing things different and that worries me and somehow Tank Davis, he figured out how to get out of that hole, that hell. But it's just an interesting story line as they play similar narratives where Garcia says, like, yo, we're from the hood, we're from the hood. My parents gave me everything. They came here. It was the American dream and now I'm the American dream. That should be his new slogan. I'm the American dream, but is, is, is what does that do? You can't discount tank and the, and the, and the hell that he, He endured growing up with parents, two parents are drug addicts. Criminals. That's heavy s**t. That's heavy s**t. Um I was also a little bit, you know, I thought it would be, there would be an opportunity if you haven't seen the kid rock video of him. Uh Basically taking, I, I've never seen a machine gun. Uh He shot a bunch of bud light cans. Ok? And I think he had tracers in his machine gun. I don't know what machine gun you're allowed to have in, in the state of Tennessee. But there were flames of fire bouncing off of the lake behind him. And what was Anheuser Busch thinking? Putting this, this uh this influencer, the trans influencer? I'm not even sure his name but what were they thinking? Putting him on Bud Leant is that the biggest mistake in the history of marketing? Do you not know who your audience is and who drinks Bud Light? And not to mention Bud Light, but Bud I'm not, I don't know what the, the the stock price is on Anheuser Busch today, but if it hasn't gone down, then maybe I'm crazy. Maybe the stock's gone up. I mean, who knows? But, but just insane. A new report estimates that COVID-19 vaccine damages in the US in 2022 Led to over 26 million people being injured At a cost of nearly 150 billion to the economy. Apparently these, uh, numbers are conservative. Wow. I looked up the stock for Anheuser Busch and it is only down three cents. It's only down three cents. So, you know, it, it got a, probably a little bit of bump and, and, but you gotta think it's, you know, why did I even say the stock price? Because you know what, it's not the stock, it's what's gonna happen today tomorrow next week when your longtime bud light buyers who are conservatives who maybe even just have a God said, f**k it. I'm gonna drink nutty ice or whatever the equivalent is. I don't know what Coors light. Coors light. So they're gonna see it hurt, they're gonna see it hurt. It's, it's gonna come at a certain point. But that COVID that COVID stat is just staggering, the vaccine reports, the injuries, what it's gonna cost us what this whole thing has cost us. I wanna read something quickly. Do not love half lovers, do not love half lovers, do not entertain half friends do not indulge in works of the half talented, do not live half a life and do not die a half death. If you choose silence, then be silent when you speak. Do so until you are finished, do not silence yourself to say something and do not speak to be silent. If you accept that express it bluntly, do not mask it. If you refuse, then be clear about it from an ambiguous refusal is but a weak acceptance. Do not accept half a solution. Do not believe half truth. Do not dream. Half a dream. Do not fantasize. About half hopes. Half a drink will not quench your thirst. Half a meal will not sa salivate your hunger. Half the way will get you nowhere. Half an idea will bear you no results. Your other half is not, is not the only one you love it is you in another time yet in the same space it is you. When you are not half a life is a life, you didn't live a word. You have not said a smile. You postponed a love. You have not had a friendship. You did not know to reach and not arrive, work and not work, attend only to be absent. What makes you a stranger to them closest to you and they strangers to you. The half is more moment of inability but you are able for you are not half a being, you are a hole that exists to live a life, not a half life. Kael Khalil Gibran wrote that I I it's really incredible. I mean, it is, it is, it is fantastic. Uh Game bred Masal Gilbert Burns this weekend, AANA Pereira. It's a huge fight. It's got a ton of, of ramifications. You know, the U F C and the W W E just got bought by Endeavor. Um Combat sports is, is, is taking over if AANA wins, which I hope it's a different ballgame. Now you got that storyline, the mirroring of storylines. W w e although the stakes aren't as high and we don't even know if it's real. The, the, the storyline sells, the storyline sells, they want a story, everyone wants a story to sell. But what is the truth behind that story? Does the kid raised by uh Mexican immigrants? Did he have a harder upbringing? But the tank who grew up with, with, with parents as drug addicts, what is the story? But what is the truth? That's what I'm, that's what I'm really, really interested in. Um The Biden administration has promised as part of 33 billion cent in military aid for the besieged country so far along with other uh with 200,000 rounds of artillery rockets, tanks rounds. All right, New York Times reported that the us has sent Ukraine so many stockpiled stinger missiles that it would take 13 years of production at recent capacity levels to replace them. Wow, Raytheon, the company that helps make Javelin missile system said it would take five years at last year's production rate to replace the number of missiles sent to Ukraine in the last 10 months. Currently, the US produces just over 14,000 rounds of 155 millimeter ammunition every month. And Ukraine forces have previously fired that many rounds in the span of 48 months. Sorry, 48 days. Uh Yeah, the numbers are staggering. The numbers are staggering. Um There's a lot going on. Oh, this is fun. All right, John Wick is a man of few words. No, he really is Wall Street Journal reports that Keanu Reeves, uh famous assassin says only 380 words across 100 303 lines of dialogue in John Wick chapter 43 hours. All right, he's got 380 words uh in the first installment, Which was 101 minutes. Reeves said a total of 484 words. Alright. And then I think that dropped down. He he he's doing more movies with less words. It's incredible and I can't wait to see it. I can't wait to see it. Dave, are you gonna go see John Wick 4? Absolutely. I'm trying to find the right time. It's three hours. So it's, it's a long one. It's a commitment. Walt Disney begins 7000 layoffs. 7000 more people getting laid off from a giant company. Alright. I could get into what Rogan said about. Uh he, he made some interesting comments. Uh, wait, Sean, there was one company, I'm blanking on the name, but they were doing so many layoffs this week that they decided to send the employees home. So they're not even going to the office this week this week because of how many people they're laying off. Yeah, it makes sense. It makes sense. Spotify, everybody's, everybody's tightening the deck, everybody's tightening the deck. The city of Toronto has released its sweeping plan to decriminalize all, all hard drugs, including fentaNYL, crack cocaine for any age. It's a good idea. Yeah, that, that, that's gonna work well. Uh, that's really gonna work well, you know what Florida did? Florida made it so anybody in any, everybody can have a gun. I mean, it's an open carry state drugs and guns are two different thing. Dave, don't, don't be careful there. I mean, guns, you know, drugs, decriminalizing fentaNYL. I mean, the whole thing is crazy. Uh, the hockey world is, is on fire right now. Um, American Idol. If you're not watching it, please, please do, do yourself a favor. Do yourself a favor. I can't stress enough the importance of our youth and these kids are so talented. They're so beautiful. They're really remarkable. Um, I, I, it's special to watch Succession. What a show. What a show? Slow burn. Kev said a slow burn but just, just, uh, pulsing, pulsing. They're firing on all cylinders. And it is, it is quite beautiful to watch. It is quite beautiful to watch. Um, I think that's all I got. Really, uh, yeah, Episode 56. No ruffs. Given it's playoffs, baby. See you next week.
