Mike Reiss started writing for The Simpsons because NO ONE else would take the job. They didn't know they were passing up the opportunity work on what would soon become the #1 animated series on prime time TV. Mike has tons of stories about TV writing, comedy, and creating something people love. His secret: "We said, 'No one's gonna watch this so let's just make this for us." In this episode, Mike tells me why he took a chance, why he wasn't afraid, and how it became the most fulfilling career move he ever made. Action Park media. The storm on the storm in world were thrown. All right, welcome to Victory, the podcast. I am Doug Ellin, remote from the desert. Hey, Dougie Kevin Dillon here, Kevin Connolly. It's weird. We're looking at Doug on Zoom and it's gigantic house and palms huge pool, man. What a gorgeous pool with a great golf course behind their palm trees everywhere. Guys really got life by the balls. How's it going? I mean, it's, it's really been one the greatest weeks ever. And look, I have to say two things. One, someone was very nice and listen to me. They gave us a five star review and they said they love, they said they loved me, but they'd like to hear more from you guys. So I'm gonna, I'm gonna talk less this episode of non remote, but this week is just, you know, it's been incredible. The Indian Wells tennis tournaments here and I've got to play with, you know, some of the pro tennis plays pickleball, not tennis, obviously. So Sam Query and Jack Sock and John is there and I'm playing with Michael Chang today. Um So it's been pretty, pretty awesome, but anyway, we're gonna talk season four episode 10. Snow job, man. I didn't remember this episode. I swear to God, Dylan is, I'm barely in it. Me and total didn't have much to do in this. Dylan is feeling like maybe he hadn't seen this episode until today. Which is possible. I do remember the, there's a telephone, a scene where there's a four people, a split screen but four ways, four ways that was really done well and it was done well, but unique. We don't usually do that kind of stuff and I do kind of remember seeing that. So well, we're gonna, we're gonna get to that unless we've done that in other episodes. Is that the only time we've ever done that Doug, I feel like we did a couple of the split screens but I was really not with four. I don't think it was really good. It was really nicely done and everybody's, you know, it felt very creative. So I like, yeah, yeah, no doubt. Alright. Well, it's interesting because we got some a lot to talk about with that but just to start things Doug because you're in the desert. I don't know. I just want you here for the announcement of the film festival winners. Our five finalists have been notified. It's all good when you come back. We're going to announce the three winners, the winner and the two honorable mentions. But sorry everybody, we gotta wait one more week. Because we need Doug in the house for this to really kind of, we can't have you out in Palm Springs for that one. So that I'm coming in next week and then we're gonna have, we're gonna have to figure out a date because for our live show, April 8th, right. Doug Doug delivered a special guest, Charlie Sheen is gonna be with us in Phoenix. I don't know if you're going to tell people. And he's gonna also, and he's also gonna come in and do the pod. We're gonna talk about it. So that's gonna be good as well. By the way, Doug, we've got a gigantic delivery of mush to the office. But to me it was delivered to Kevin Connolly. So I'm gonna keep it. I'm sending Dylan home with boxing. Yeah, he's gonna give it a try because Dylan came in today and he ate a bagel and a coffee. I'm like, offset that bagel and coffee. It's like cut steel. It's like it's, but it's, but it's healthy and it offsets the bagel. Dylan. What is in their healthy Dylan what is in there is life and you know, too much life, dude. You don't want to live too long for a good time. Not a long time. Well, I have been in the best shape. I've been in a long time and I've been doing it all right, hitting the gym, hitting the weights for the first time in a couple of years since me. Actually, since Hawaii, Hawaii, wait, you and you're not on, you're not on your doing it naturally with you. It's a very controversial weight loss job. That's the okay. But it's those epic. I actually need to put on weight. I need £10 of muscle. I don't need to lose anything. I was gonna say, I don't need to put on, maybe you need to put on muscle, but I don't know what kind of I'll get you. I'll get you in the gym. Start benching, get your shoulders. Give me man's shoulders, manly shoulders. Dylan came in today and aside from you know, this bagel on his coffee and that was mush. He's got a old school black and white marble journal notebook. Look at this dog. Uh Yeah, I got my so he, you know these things. Yeah. Notes man, it's been like every page of this is like stocks when we, when we go to, when we go to start watching the episode, that was like, I'll take notes in my book. He has so many stock notes that he didn't have a clean page for notes in his stock. He could not find one dude. I take it seriously when I get into it, I get into it. I got my list of all the stock. So I'm talking one great value. I had a great day to day traded today. I went six for six today and believe me, it's been tough. This is the first time I've had a really, I mean, I've had some really, really bad, bad trading days, had some days where I was. I just want to quit. I mean, it's been tough, bro. You know, I got, I heard at a terrible time I, well, I've had one good month in the six months. I've been doing it. January was a good month. Every other month has been really s**tty for the stocks, but I'm still up. I heard all your cash was at Silicon Valley Bank. Is that true? I would, you would get it back. But yeah, probably would affect me from trading. Right. I wouldn't be able to, well, you would get it back because the government decided to say you would get it back. But no one knew that no one knew that 100 hours ago. They didn't have freaking out. They didn't have to give it back to everyone. They're doing it anyway. Well, they should because they're f**king, they caused the problem. So they, Charles Schwab and they actually were a little bit of trouble to, they kind of got hit. Their stock got hit pretty hard. What, what I did today was, I took advantage of these bank stocks and since they all dropped, I found an E T F, it's a, it's a triple leverage E F and uh, and I day traded the shift out of it today because I knew the banks were gonna rise. So how did you day trade out of it? So it's, yes, it's called F A S, the E T F. It's called F A s and it's triple leverage, leverage. So it's just like uh the queue. So it's like T Q Q R S Q Q through the morning. So you wake up at 5 30 in the morning coffee. Yeah, because they had the, uh C P I reports, you know. so I had to find out what was going on and the C P I S were good because it's like trading places where he's trying to find out about the orange index report. You gotta find out what the orange crop report, the orange crop reports. Dylan has a as a, as a, as a leg up in the orange crop reports. So the numbers came in good. So I had a, I knew it was gonna be a good day for trading. So, uh so I traded a couple of different things, you know, I got multiple screens going, I got, I got three screens going at the same time and what's in the, what's in the notes in the note pads? You, is that something you do at night before I go to sleep? I kind of accept my game plan of what I want to do the next day. Assuming that you like what you see, but I have to get up early and check the overnight because you don't know what happened the night before, but before I go to sleep I'll see what's going on with the European stock market and the Asian stock market. I have something to do with what's happening. Absolutely. The only way to do it, I mean, Doug, how do you feel? What do you think? I'm nauseous. I, I can't stand it. He has, you know, I have a good friend who I won't say his name. He started back in, uh, before the crash in 08 when every everybody and I'm Dylan, I'm not making fun of you. I hope you can make $100 billion. But when everybody thought they knew how to trade the stock market, he had a, a stock blog and the thing was up like 1700% and he was going crazy, then the market crashed when nobody could see it coming. Dylan could do all the research he wants in your and he got, he got wiped out. He no longer has that, that stock blog anymore or a car. So I just want Kevin, I've already been through a crash. What do you think the stock market has been doing this whole time? Father gonna go back even, it's gonna go even lower. But I have, uh, kind of going with shapes stocks and I'm pulling, I'm taking profits out. I'm still love during really tough times. You know, Dylan and Dylan and I have the same business manager and they're very conservative. Do they know about this? Yeah, I've been telling Tom all about it. Okay. Yeah. So I just want to say just, just more money, I want to put more money in when this thing crashes. Just a little anecdote because Jim Cramer, well, Jim Cramer bankrupted a lot of people this week is a jerk off and acts like he does everything. He said he's a complete jerk off was good when it wasn't right. He said the bank, the bank will be fine. He said, he said more than the bank will be fine. He said you should buy it. That was about two weeks ago. So if you put your money in and you're just a guy who was at home listening to advice from a guy on TV, You would literally have lost 90% of your money today. Um so, you know, it's just, it's, it's a dangerous thing and that someone whose job is and I guess this is your job now too, but it's his job for 30 years to call these things, right? And that's why I say things can happen, that are unforeseen. And I believe this is all I'm saying and I don't care. I don't want to sound like your father. I think Kevin Dillon is one of the greatest actors in the business right now. And the fact that you're not on a TV show and the fact that I would rather see you out auditioning for shows rather than day trading. But that's again, you know, I mean, yeah, I mean, I'm not gonna, it's really not about day trading as much as it is about investing in these stocks and preparing, I think. You know, it's fun. I like, I like, that's what I'm saying. I'm getting the vibe from Dylan that he likes the, he likes the game plan. He wants to look at the age. I wish I had someone to teach me a little bit because I don't have anyone to teach me anything. And also here's got to sit down with your brother, Rob, man. He would help out a lot. You should probably stay put more. Yeah, stop moving around. You're breaking up and you're looking at here. Um but Tom Cars got an eye on you, bro and it's not really not really. I'm gonna rat him out. I'm telling you what's going on but he knows how much I have to play with. Right. This is money he didn't even know about, you know, I sold cars and pinball machines and ship like that and I had a bunch of cats playing with house money. Alright. You're reinvesting in the market. I'm gonna want more money when this thing crashes. Just don't give out any handy's for a little extra stock. Okay. You know what I'm saying? I don't want to hear anything. Oh my God, more stock shares. Dylan would be happy. Dylan would give a handy for a good tip in a second. You're disgusting. You go too far. Hey, Connolly, one of the most horrific sights I've ever seen is Kevin Dillon and stock tip. Dave discussing stocks. You know, as he gave me, I got stock tips. You know, by the way, he's got, listen, he got that nickname by accident a long time ago. He don't have stock tips, bro. If anything, I got a, I got a stock tip for you right now. Write an E T F A financially G F. Is this, by the way, is the sec? Is this illegal? What Dylan's doing? By the way, I would like to say, I would like to say, hold on, let me say to the victory audience. Disclaimer. Action park media, Kevin Connolly is not, is not responsible for any and all stock X L F. It's a financial E T F and it's got really good banks, banks that will never go under because they're all, they're too big to fail. Certain banks will never go down little banks will the big ones won't? Alright. We got you going to tell you all about it. You want to put all your money and press, sell the house and just put it all in the CTF. I think the internet literally said you got to give a stock tip and just blacked it out. I think it made it illegal in the algorithm. Either that or it got really dizzy. I'm gonna give a stock tip every show. I agree. Dylan's day trading. It's a great segment. Wait, Dylan. But Dylan with a day trade, you have to, you can't give a tip. You got to give a, when to get in and when to get out. You can't just say, yeah. Well, no, you, you don't know when to get in until you're in front of the chart. You know, you gotta wait, you gotta be watching the chart and find that moment and I'm finally learning to get a good entry and a good exit because I've been sucking it up every time. But now getting in in at the right time and out at the right time, I'm not getting like I was a lot earlier early in the game. My point is the only way you can give anyone a tip is if you invite them to your place and they live with you so that they know when you're getting in, when you're getting out, correct, I'll give them the tip of my, you know what? I could give a tip on stocks, you know, I could give it like, you know, this is a good stock, I think it's undervalued. Do you have a morning text chat with a couple of guys? No, no, but I do have a couple of youtube guys that I listened to and I'll get some ideas from youtube and you know, Bloomberg and CNBC. That, oh boy. Alright. You know what? Listen, we gotta, again, just like I want to talk to Rob Ellen Doug. Your brother is, he's like one of the biggest. Right? Isn't huge with that. You should talk to Jim Cramer, you should call him and talk to him. All right, we're gonna cool all this off. We're gonna go to a quick break and when we come back season four episode 10, snow job, you know, for most of us learning a second language in high school wasn't exactly a high point of our academic careers. Did you make a vulgar comment towards me when I mentioned I got your snow job right here, boy, Doug, what do you think about season four episode 10, Snow job? A J Buckley credits, written, written credits. People ask for a little summary but written credits by myself and Allie Musica and directed by Ken Winningham. And I enjoyed the episode. I actually thought it flew by AJ like I haven't seen this episode in years and I remember on the set, I could not stop laughing at him. And um, Dave knows A J A J Buckley played Dave Ana Faris is overbearing boyfriend and he was, he was great. Um You know, we shot that at the Gray Stone mansion. Did you know that, of course, for people listening, the Gray Stone Mansion where we shot this, um, was built by Edward Doheny who I'm pretty sure Doug tell me if I'm wrong, I'm loosely based on Daniel Day Lewis in. There will be blood. Is that right? Yeah, I'm not mistaken. No, no, he's Doheny is the one who brought water to L A. No, no, no, he's though, he struck, he struck oil. We gotta look into that. Doheny brought water. He brought the water and he drilled, job really bought that big house and like a few months after they moved into the house, Scottie back here, you got, you got to look that one up ned Doheny. His son got killed in like a murder suicide with a friend. It's like a great, truly feel like a damn, you know, a dam burst and a lot of people were killed and he took that to heart and a lot of people blamed him for that. Are we talking about the same guy guy? It's the famous street I live on. Do you think, you know a little bit about it? But maybe there's a lot to write about this. I know that they were oil guys because I know that they were oil guys might have been a little oil, but he's really famous for bringing water to what it is. They moved into the house and something bad happened and I don't know that anybody ever lived there but it's been, it's like, it's a definite stops. You're trying to say that I'm saying that the Greystone mansion is haunted. We shot there. It's a beautiful ridiculous house that's now a museum man. Yeah, I'll give you that. That was, that was my Daniel Day Lewis and Pass gas man. He was scary in that movie was great. He was great. He was so scary. He was scary as Edward Doheny guy, Oil Baron from the area. But that was just a little side note about that. I thought that was interesting. I have a side note. It's so bizarre that I go away for a week and Dylan's like a stock trading hissed above Connolly. And you are, you guys should do a podcast where you debate history. I think that would be great. I'm gonna look this up right now. Scotty won't look it up. Hey, Scotty could look up. Don't, don't find out what he did. He brought water to Los Angeles. He built levees and canals and when they broke one of them broke a lot of people, but he did it. Yeah, there's a Donnini fountain fountain. Yeah. Big water in his. Like, can you look that up for us, Scott? We're looking up what we'll do. We'll do saying he can't do it well, do I know he can't hear us is what he's saying. We will do. You can't do it Edward Doheny, what we're talking about? Like we open up at Earth Cafe, which is always fun and it's like, it's like a six page scene. It's a big scene and Dylan and I noticed something when Dylan's done Googling, he was an oil tyc**n. For sure. What else you got? Dylan Dylan Stock tip, shell, oil shell, oil shell, anything about water, water Chevron for a while. But, you know, I thought the oil stocks are gonna go off but they just don't try to go off track. Did Edward Doheny bring water to L A? I'm looking for, I'm looking for, who am I thinking of that? I don't know. But it's not Edward Doheny. It's not ever does. But yeah. Did you see the day? And I picked up on it right away. We started laughing this scene when we walk it when the opening shot right into, into Earth Cafe, probably 56 page scene. But Dylan kept doing this thing where, you know, on his close up where he's like poking, poking my chest and every take like, like it's obvious that like the first time he did it, he kind of like, I was kind of like, like stop doing that. Like he's really, really emphasized like, don't do poking, poking, poking my chest and then he finally poked me one too many times there. He slapped that menu right out of his hands, slapped that menu right out of his hands. I was like, of course, of course, of course, it was funny but we watched him. We were both like, wow, that was kind of rewind that. What was that? What was that? You know, there used to be a lot of those days where you guys would just be real juvenile delinquents and fight with each other and it was, it brought good energy to the set and it always was funny, you know, like, like the scene on the plane at the end of season one, it was always funny when you guys like try to wrestle each other got mowed down. Like little Connolly could knock me over this little present. It's immortalized. I should have got an Oscar immortalized on film, bro. Hey Dylan Dylan, last stop question. Would you, would you go long or short? Kevin Connolly definitely going short on Connolly. Right. Go all your money margin, call time, baby. I'm going along on Action Park. I'll tell you that I'm going long on that. We're not short. Hey, Doug E is very soft in this episode. I don't, I don't wanna be in this episode. I didn't lovey in this episode. And I think, um you know, Connolly became like he was kind of Kevin and I think when he has to play shy, Connolly would always go, I'm not sure I like this. I'm very confident and I don't, I don't know that you felt comfortable with that type of. I, I'm willing to take 50% of the blame here. I would say 50% on the performance and then 50% on the page because some of it is, you know, I don't know, he's just soft. Everybody else, everybody's right. All these years later, this guy is just soft. Everything about him is soft. It's bothersome. All right. So, well, let's wait. I want to go through this. What? Let's rewrite it right now. What would you have e do differently in this episode? I just, I guess, you know, again, maybe it is my fault. The thing that I would do differently today is sort of my interactions with the guys with regards to these questions about how I get. I don't like they kind of pushed me around a little bit, you know, it's a form of bullying what they're doing to e you know, I don't know, I feel like I would stand up for my, a little bit more with regards to my personal life. I thought you meant more with the, with the scenes with AJ and Anna but, but I hear you, I mean they always bust on you and usually you just, you take it and don't really care, but I, I understand. Alright, I funked up. I just looked up, it was more Holland William Mulholland and by the way, he sucked up listening. That's what I said. By the way, he, he funked up on his stock also. So let's wait till he corrects. That gives you the proper stock I should I appreciate. By the way, I didn't know that. So, the famous Mulholland Dr, what's his name? Johnny Mulholland, Mr Mulholland. He brought water. Was he responsible for the L A river? That's a good little tidbit for responsible for bringing a lot of water to Los Angeles. You might have just made that up, make that up. I thought Frederic Perrier brought all the water to L A. No, William Moja Moja Holland, 18 55 to 1935 an Irish American. Another one, by the way, just like Doheny, the Irish were taken over for a minute and I brought the whiskey to Los Angeles as well. Bringing the water allowed Los Angeles to grow into the city. That is today your real research machine. Good tidbit, tidbit. But it's supposed to come from the booth. You know, I mean, I got to do my own work. I gotta do my own research, parking space. I got no respect supposed to come from the booth. I love it. Yeah, but there was some different creative things, Dylan, we can, we can tell Doug um you know, like there's those scenes in the house. Now, granted we're shooting in a $20 million House all gla*s. You want to see as much of the house as possible. Privately, Dylan. And I felt like there was movement for the sake of movement and maybe, yeah, I mean, I directed that that was Ken. It wasn't great, but I just felt like I remember having to move around a lot in that scene. I'm delivering this and that at one stage, Adrian jumped on the counter and then jump back off and kept moving. It felt like it felt like it was amazing, but it felt like let's show off this house a little bit. That felt like a granny. Ain't no Grenier would want to do weird ship. That didn't make any sense, blocking wise ones. I'm gonna jump on the counter for a 2nd and 2nd. But Doug, I know it was always a big thing of you guys and which is obviously why I think people love the show so much because of the wish fulfillment. But did you feel at times like, hey, we're in this house, we gotta, we gotta put a little movement into it so we can get our, our bucks worth. No, I mean, look, you have to find and, and not necessarily speaking about the scene because I, I didn't watch that closely in that regard, but I am an absolute lightly against movement for the sake of movement to show anything. I think that movement always has to be motivated by the character's. And for a reason that being said, there are scenes that you could theoretically sit down at a table and there are scenes that you could put on the move I like to have seen, but I would never have someone I would never have someone jump on the counter just to get them to go up the counter and go somewhere else, maybe Ken. But I mean, as an actor have to have a reason. I'm like, why am I going there? You know, when the director goes okay and you're gonna go over here, I'm like, there's nothing there. What would bring me there? I have to have something there. There's no reason why would I walk over there? You know what I do as a director, as a director. In that scenario, I would ask you that I would say to you, Kevin, can you get here and you know what I would tell you go by the way, but it would be better, it would be better to ask you. Yeah. And I would try and solve like yo, is there any way if you can be like, yeah, can you put a table over there? Maybe I gotta grab something off the table or there's got to be some reason I'm right. So if I said if I said to you, Dylan, I, I would love to get you here. What do you think if you could get a reason to make it happen? Right? You try to make it happen. So that's the, that's if you, if you recall, if you recall in the ramble on pilot, which by the way, there is absolutely no news about. No good, no bad. No nothing. We can ignore that for the moment. But in the pilot, the scene that you Charlie Sheen and, and you guys did with Charlie, there was a moment where Charlie needed to get an item and we were debating how to get there. I usually have very specific thoughts even when I'm writing where I think the motivation is to move and that doesn't mean the actor has to stick to it. So I will say to you guys, this is how I would do it. And actually, in that regard, Charlie was very happy with what I said, I go the way I saw it was this and if you remember it was something with a blender and we ultimately, we went with that. So I think, yeah, it should never be movement for to show a house. I mean, Kevin, you might remember that we had that problem in that episode when I walked into uh by the way, I was, I was there this morning, we're talking about Gold's gym. Gold's Gym, which we spent a lot of money for that location. And I was in the writer's room and I walked on the set and I come in and the camera is facing a wall and Kevin Connolly is doing a scene with I think Josh Lebar. Maybe. No, I think, I think this is, this is this the shot at Gold's Gym where we're panning along and I'm going at a nice steady pace on the, on the, on the elliptical And Jerry's going to know pace and then you go to drama and drama is just cranking through going 100 miles an hour shot. But yeah, we were shooting in a 15,000 square foot gym and we're up against the wall, right? So what's the point is what you're saying? And we pay and we paid a lot of money for it. And I walked in and that was the shot and I said, what the f**k? Turn it around and we, I believe we ended up, we had the time, right? We did turn around and we never had. The idea is you want to, if you spend a lot of money on a location, you want to see it. We're actually a gold where it through a wide shot or what happened. All right. Well, let's talk, bro. We're laughing, you know, again, we always say this Piven, you know, Piven Piven is great in this episode. He really is. There's a lot going on that story lines flying. What's going on? I thought that storyline was great. And I thought Rex and Pivot and Constance, you know, Dana Gordon were awesome. And, you know, weirdly enough, there's like an Apple TV show called Silo that's like about to begin. And I'm watching, I don't, well, I don't know what it's about. I doubt it's about some non unionized farm hands that survive a nuclear attack, which was like, remember the character name? You said, I was really interested in the role of Kenton or something. You know what's amazing that I remember most about this episode besides AJ, which we'll get to is Billy's girlfriend, cat, who we talked. I mean, what do you mean? Well, the minute she came on, I always say, like, it was amazing. She was one of those people that was just had such gravitas on the set that everybody was acting like fools, like trying. I mean, like everybody was like way fighting out of their weight class and it was just like you guys got no shot. She was, people were, people were legitimately like in love with her. It was actually bizarre. And again, for the for the animals out there was, there was nothing weird that was going on. But people were like, you remember cliff. Yeah, if you remember Cliff Clavin on cheers when they do those really goofy things, when a beautiful woman walked in and he'd be like, I remember and I don't remember either of you specifically. So I don't want to say that I just remember a bunch of people like kind of stumbling over words. She just took over, she took over with her but but, but Dillon, you showed up on set that day to do makeup, which is weird. I don't know why you did that. It shows because when, when the scene came on, Dylan was, was looking at Reese and Billy Walsh in his tighty whiteys Dylan, he was wearing Louise had small underwear on, he was not wearing boxers, no boxer briefs, that's for sure. The same thing with Reese upper deck shot for Reese, bro. I don't even know what a great guy just crushes it. He really crushes it. But yeah, he's in his and the fires are Reese, walks away with it. He's amazing. Um, and I believe, I believe this story came from if I'm not mistaken. And I don't even know if it's the true way adaptation happens. But adaptation with Nick Cage is one of my favorite movies. And for any writer out there, the first half hour of that movie are so true to life about a writer. But what that movie was about was about a, a screenwriter who gets the job of writing a book into a screenplay and he decides to go off on his own and write whatever the he wants. And I believe that's where that story came from. And also just an aside, you know, you know, Nick Cage was supposed to be in the ramble on pilot. And uh I didn't send you guys this video, I gotta post that. It's so funny. But this fan of ours went to some Q and A with Nick Cage and uh he got up and asked the question, I'm gonna send this to read into this, but he got up and it's like, hey Nick Doug Ellin says, what's up? It's like Sloan says what's happened? And Nick Cage is like, uh he's like, Doug Ellin says his love and Nick Cage is like, I don't know what you're talking about, man. He was ramble on, man. Ramble on. Yeah. And Nick Cage, who I did speak to and was going to do ramble on. But unfortunately, was a conflict came up for Dracula, but he had no idea who any of us were. So it was, it was something was not a walk in the clouds. Clouds was the original thing and he turned it into silo. That's what happened. Yeah, I think it was a walk in the clouds. But yeah, he just decided he was like, I don't know, there was just two men on a mountain. It felt gay David or whatever. But, but, but it has, it has happened where writers have taken that paycheck and decide to go off on their own, which is such an insane thing to do and you know, one of the episodes for sure, for sure. But this episode felt very real in the business landscape to screwing over a studio who was counting on a tent pole movie and, and the same thing by the way, because I've dealt with a lot of stuff that, that he was dealing with. I've seen a lot of that of, of both representatives having little, you know, flirtations with clients or crazy boyfriends that they have to deal with during that situation. So I've seen all those things and, and to me it's played very realistic like when you're doing a, like a love scene and you got the girl's boyfriend shows up and starts watching him. Yeah, it gets a little weird. It's a little weird right up your alley. Um Listen, I don't care what you looking at, I don't think, I don't think he likes Anna Faris at all in a crush. I don't, I mean, I think he thinks that she's hot and she's beautiful, but I don't think, I don't feel like he is trying to get, you don't want to ruin, you know, good professional client. Great client. Shout out to John Hurt who passed away. But that was a great little. Oh yeah, Jon Herb. good buddy of mine. You know, big first big movie, 1980 for Heaven help us. I worked with that guy. What a great guy, John hurt. You know what? I didn't even realize that Kevin and I, when I, when he came on the air, you know, because I just watched home alone with my kids like a month ago, such a great actor and by the way, he was so great. And also as long as we're talking sad stuff, I just want to give a shout out, you know, our buddy Dominant Lombardo's, he lost his mom. And uh you know, when I thought, I thought you guys knew, you know, he, he posted it. So anyway, you guys should both send him a message. But anyway to Dom like recently like today or yesterday. Yeah, I think like yesterday. But you know the dom who's, you know, who's such a good guy and was helping take care, take care of her while she was sick, you know, we love you and our best to you, buddy. I'll call you if I did. I did not, I did not know that that's uh um so, but John heard, you know, when we see these guys on our show because we've lost so many that were on the show and I know it's 15 years but still like John was a young guy and, you know, we also Dylan, I believe Sizemore was a buddy of yours. Right? Tom Sizemore just passed away as well. Yeah, for some reason, you know, that's weird with three of us on the air right now. I don't know that I needed to get all the details on Tom Sizemore. What happened there? I think he had like a brain aneurysm and you know, like for anyone who doesn't know Tom who partied his a*s off, he's an incredible actor, but he had, you know, had a rough life, rough childhood and a lot of drugs, obviously. I mean, he had a big, big, big demons of skill just like popping out bone just flew out of Dylan's mouth. Did you see they catch that on the zoom out of the closet? Um All right. So this episode again, bones. You smoked a bone before I come in today and I smell weed right away. I'm like, oh no, he's Connolly back into the weed bag again. Smoking a bone before you, by the way, the anxiety levels of the rain and Dylan drive, I had to drive an hour and I get what kind of anxiety and you don't like when I'm out of town, I prefer you hear. Right. I fully admit that it's just not the same without you and the drivers. It's very nice. Very nice. But I really think you guys should come out here. We do a podcast from the golf course here would be awesome. You can't, you can't even get in the way we get a good night's a little bit. It's a little too bright here. I mean, not only is my sweat, it's hot. I mean, you gotta bring it down a little bit like a campfire, but it should be more of a kind of nice, Dylan. We can do the party from my body. That's the party pool, by the way. Yeah, we can do it all. We'll hang out in the pool. That would be shirtless. Hey, Doug. Yeah, I would do anything. This guy would do. Anything to take his shirt off in front of everybody loves Connolly. Will catch fire out here. But, you know, I will burst, I will burst into flames and it's weird without some blocks without more than sunblock. I need, I need like protection. I need Mark Christie. You know, my daughter who's, I mean, I'm hoping she's a little darker than Connolly, but she's got light eyes and light skin and like I took her out to take a picture in the sun today and she looked like Connolly on set the second the sun hit her. She was just like, no, by the way, there was, there was one of those things in this episode where I did like a weird caruso sunglasses move at the end of the scene and I was ready your forehead like, no, I like and I put on this like there's like a thing but, but I was, I was like, why would I, why would you do that? I was thinking to myself, I mean, I did not love myself in this episode, but I'm going, why would you do that? And then I remembered it was so bright up there. It was so bright up there that I couldn't remember every time we did a scene where they would put the bounce on us, they would bounce the sun off a white board. Me and Connolly would be like, I can't see any tougher on, on lighter eyes. You don't, you don't know what it's like to have baby blue blue eyes, crystal blue eyes, blue eyes. Yeah, exactly like that. We would have to wear sunglasses and people be like, oh, you're squinting through the whole thing. You got two options. I can either put on my sunglasses or I can squint. I can do it with my eyes trying to do. That might be a little weird but should be easy to act your way around Dylan with your eyes closed. But you guys really you guys really have some serious hardships. I feel bad. Said those blue eyed people have been so, you know. Yeah. But I'll tell you, I just, I want to get into a J because, you know, at the time of this episode, American Idol was the biggest thing in the world. And Randy Jackson, who was a fan of the show and I got to hang out with, he would always say dog, which now, I mean, maybe people said it all the time before, but he really would say it all the time. I didn't know that was like, who's that? Who's that? Who's, who's Randy Jackson? The picture for the Mariners? It, it's crazy because American Idol was so big back then. And I don't know if people really know who Randy is. Randy is a great music producer aside from, you know, aside from American Idol, but he's big on, you're just not gonna cut a dog. You just can't do that. He was big at the time. So everyone at the time, but, but by the way, you didn't even need to, I, I didn't remember that the reference is going to be in there. But A J from the minute he came on the screen is just so f**king funny. And the truth is A J brings and I don't know if you guys thought this, he brought real funny, but then there was a darkness to it like in that scene with New and e there was like a real, like one of those real Hollywood guys where we, I don't know if it was like a Rob Cappelletti who dated Cher. He was called the Bagel Boy or there was like a couple of them though. Or even in, in the Star 80 Paul Snider. Yeah, I mean, it felt like, like it went from funny and it wasn't that a J didn't bring it 100%. He really brought some drama to it that I don't think was in the script that I think he really brought to it and it felt, it felt like it could go to a dark place and then Reese with the gun. I was like, I don't remember that at all. I totally forgot about that as well. Reese Reese is in there with a gun in the bathroom. It's crazy. Like she, she hid the bullets on me. Yeah. Any idea where this goes? I have no idea how does the fairest thing end? You know, what's the next thing we're closing in on can? So I think, I think next episode is gonna be pretty eventful because that was 10. And then I believe there's two more left in the season and the last one is Can. So, I mean, Silo doesn't even get made right. We never hear about it disappears. So confused about silo, bro. Went from clouds to Silo and then it ends with me going, where's the snow? But, well, I really do like the story of how it goes from clouds to silo. Billy Walsh decided he didn't like this book and he wrote the script that people thought was great and, you know, it would never happen like that even if he wrote a Yeah, but, but Piven really was awesome in this episode and so was Rex. Um and, and the episode to me, a tremendous energy, the kind of energy that I like when we have and it, and it really flew by. Um the stuff with, I thought the stuff with you and A J and Anna was really, it was good. It was just, it was a little darker than I remember it. I mean, I don't know if you guys felt that not just the scenes with her, even him yelling at her in the trailer and felt like what, where the funk is this going? You know what I mean? It was good and the photographer was good. The producer was a good, it was a good day of shooting and, and, but, and I've said this before. Um AJ is one of those guys where, you know, again, you know, you look at the script, you don't know what's coming down the pipe. But um you know, he, the minute he opened his mouth, I was like, all right, this is gonna be fun and I think he did, you know, he did a lot with it. So we're going to talk to him about that. He's also a great actor. He's had a great career. So let's get him. Yeah, he works a lot. By the way, I got a little, you know, that a J Buckley and Emmanuel, like, dated for years. What? Yes, they were like boyfriend and girlfriend. Why don't you leave with that? Didn't, you know, I mean, I just remembered, I just remembered, I believe they were like boyfriend and girlfriend way back in the day. Just wait, dude, man. Do you believe it or? It's a fact like, is this gonna be like Tahini? And you have no idea what I was right about Joe. He believes it goes. I was right about Joe. Heaney Dylan was the one that was wrong. Holland. Oh Heaney couple Irishman. Now, I'm pretty sure I'll confirm the manual, but I'm pretty sure they want to say they live together. Am I making this up? Oh my God. I want to say, I want to say they had four kids together, but I don't know. I just don't know. Well, I was back in town too so we're going to get her in here to chat and catch up. All right. Well, we'll find out if that's true. We'll get her stock tips. But I was, I was texting with a J last night actually. And so he'll come on, he's on, I'm so stupid. I keep seed team six or seal team team. Okay. So, it's on CBS but by the way, he's jacked. I mean that should be coming from the booth but you know, whatever is anyone in the booth there in the booth there in the booth but the things you know, whatever, it's a little, little wonky but it's good. Um Alright, so that's great. And next episode we're gonna do, you know we're gonna announce the winners. I promised the Jsx Queens Boulevard International Film. Hey, can we do it out there? Can we? I would love to go to Palm Springs play a little golf. Oh, great on that one. I definitely want to come out. Yeah, we'll do it so jealous right now. I wish I was there. Is it hot there? It's uh today it's, it's perfect. It's like 75 it's pouring rain here and you've got a great day out there and the rain's coming yesterday, yesterday was absolutely perfect. And, and again, for anyone who's interested who laughs at me just, you know, and I don't want to embarrass one of the world's great tennis players, but I have a passing shot against John Isner at match point impeccable about tennis. That is just spectacular. John is John is the top 15 tennis part of the world. You know, he actually holds the record for the fastest serve in history of, but he's I think he might be a gold medals to the booth. Should look that up. But anyway, he beat him I played doubles pickleball. We did beat him, my partner and I beat him and his partner. But at match point, which is on my Instagram right now is me passing him down the line and he posted on and he said he goes, I figured you'd post that point to Southern. But it was, it was beautiful. I think you'll, I think you'll find it quite impressive for a 54 year old man. But what I can tell you is I am I can barely walk. And then, you know, my friend who has this incredible house with this indoor pickleball court, that really is the most beautiful place I've ever been to um every day. It's someone else shows up there. Drew Brees was there yesterday. Um and we get to play with all these guys, so it's a lot of fun. So, yeah, yeah, true is good. You know, I'm better but no, but he's, but he's a better quarterback though. So everyone's got their, you're a better writer. You're a better writer. Alright. Well, we're gonna wrap, we're gonna wrap this one up, go to the Action Park youtube page and subscribe because we got got content on there. Um Dug in the desert. Thank you for joining us. Desert Dougie. We call him now Desert Dougie Dylan's gonna be back next week with some stock tips. Dave is no longer. I've taken his nickname I'm taking. Maybe you should take that as your I'll tell you what if he's got any stock tips. I've been waiting for what I've been asking him every day. I think it's dicey. Wait, Conley, could you picture coming into the office? And Dylan's got freaking stock tip pinned to the ground because he gave a bad stock tips. I mean, it would be. So that the funk is Dave's number. What you told me to put everything? What stock tip, Dave's number? What is his? I'm coming for him. Come on, get your bean stock tips. But isn't, isn't that kind of like it? With stock tips write? Doesn't every stock tip come with a disclaimer? You know what, you know what you're getting, you could tell me like, yo you push that button, you know what you're getting into your saying? I love the stock but, but it also could go south. So it's not on me this oil stock. I just know that, I mean, not oil, the financials have dropped so much that they have to go, they have a long way up and there's good. Okay. Your call don't do make your own call. Once again. Action Park media is not responsible for any, by the way, by the way, Kevin, anyone who knows. And I actually wanted to do a story about this once upon a time and a lot of great television shows have done episodes of this. Cheers did an episode where um norm is starting a tanning salon in Boston and nobody wants to invest and all of a sudden, you know, it starts snowing and the place is packed. Everyone's mad at him. This is what always happens with friends. So the bottom line is if you give someone a stock tip and they purchase it, I would say 80% of them will be mad at you. Even if they pretend that they're not and they'll talk behind your back. So I am saying to my audience, whoever listens to me and I know there's some people who hate me and just like the Kevin's do not take any stock advice from any of us. Okay. Go to five professionals. Take acting advice. I got, I got one of my buddies at my club, Saticoy. I said, hey, put what you got right now on Tesla so low right now and that stock went, went up its comeback since I should have sold that at the time. He sold it got out and made a fortune is that Don Johnson because Don Johnson I take advice from but not that he doesn't go after that. But we got some, some horse tips for, you know, stock tips. We'll, we'll get to that. So anyway, that wraps up another episode of the podcast. We'll be back with maybe we'll talk an episode next week to interview A J. We're gonna do some stuff, but we're gonna, we're gonna wrap up season four. So it's coming. All right. Victory, victory There's a.
